About Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam, to me, is much more than a classical Indian dance—it’s a sacred journey that has shaped who I am since I was five years old. Under the guidance of my revered teacher, Srimati Ramaa Ramesh, I immersed myself in this ancient art form with devotion and discipline, graduating in 2023 with a heart full of gratitude and a mind enriched by tradition.

Each mudra, every intricate step, and the vivid expressions in Bharatanatyam tell timeless stories—stories of gods, heroes, and profound spiritual truths. For someone like me, who deeply resonates with the wisdom of the Bhagavad Gita, Bharatanatyam becomes a living dialogue between dharma and rasa, where duty meets emotion in perfect harmony.

Learning and performing Bharatanatyam has always been a way to connect the spiritual with the physical, the ancient with the contemporary. It mirrors my own path of blending scientific inquiry and soulful reflection, global insights and local action. Watching the dance unfold or embodying it myself, I feel the weight of centuries of wisdom flow through me—a reminder that every gesture can be both purposeful and poetic, every movement a conscious step toward clarity and meaning.

My love for Bharatanatyam over the years

    Dance at the Temple

Dancing in the temple is fundamental to Bharatanatyam because it began as a devotional offering performed by devadasis to express spiritual stories and connect with the divine; these performances were an integral part of temple rituals and festivals, turning dance into a sacred language that celebrates culture, faith, and tradition through movement.

Here’s a video of me performing as Lord Krishna at the Bridgewater Hindu Temple in New Jersey, sharing that sacred storytelling through dance.
