My Journey with the Bhagavad Gita

Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita is a revered Hindu scripture, part of the Indian epic Mahabharata, presented as a dialogue between Prince Arjuna and Lord Krishna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. As Arjuna grapples with moral confusion and despair, Krishna offers profound guidance on duty (dharma), selflessness, and spiritual wisdom.

🌿 What It Is:

  • A philosophical and spiritual guide composed of 700 verses.
  • Covers themes like karma (action), bhakti (devotion), and jnana (knowledge).
  • Encourages living with purpose, detachment from outcomes, and alignment with one’s higher self.

🌱 2021- A Journey Begins

In 2021, as the world paused during the COVID lockdown, I found myself searching—not for distraction, but for depth. Like Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra, standing at the crossroads of doubt and duty, I too faced an inner turmoil that begged for clarity and purpose. This yearning led me to the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, through the SGS Gita Foundation’s Mahāyajña program.

What began as a simple way to stay engaged soon became a spiritual anchor. I had never spoken or heard Sanskrit before, and the first Zoom classes focused on pronunciation. I struggled. I stumbled. But just as Arjuna stayed to listen to Krishna’s wisdom amidst the chaos, I stayed—committed to the journey of transformation, verse by verse.

🔥 The Fire of Discipline: One Verse at a Time

The course lasted a full year. There were moments I wanted to give up—when the verses felt too complex, the language too foreign, and the meaning too elusive. But something deeper kept me going. I memorized all 700 verses of the Gita. Not just the words, but the wisdom. Each śloka became a mirror, a mantra, a map.

    🌺 The Mahāyajña Experience

The SGS Gita Foundation describes the Mahāyajña as a sacred offering of study and sound. Students learn all 700 verses in 10 months, with a focus on authentic pronunciation, authoritative memorization, and deep understanding. Graduates are invited to participate in sampūrṇa gītā pārāyaṇa—a full recitation in the divine presence of Parama Pūjya Śrī Swamiji during the annual Gītā Utsav.

    📜 Recognition and Resonance

In 2023, I joined over 3,000 fellow seekers in Dallas to recite the Gita in unison. That moment earned us a Guinness World Records certificate for the largest simultaneous recitation. But the true reward was not the certificate—it was the collective vibration of devotion, echoing across generations.

Upon completion of my rigorous course I received the certificate from the SGS foundation

He is the founder of the Avadhoota Datta Peetham, a spiritual organization based in Mysore, India. Swamiji is known for his teachings on spiritual realization, his unique healing and meditation music, his involvement in social and humanitarian causes, and

The  Bhagavad Gita was revealed by Lord Krishna to Arjuna at Jyotisar, a place in the Kurukshetra district of Haryana, India, under a sacred banyan tree during the pre-battle of Kurukshetra. While the entire battlefield is Kurukshetra, Jyotisar is identified as the exact location where the divine sermon was delivered. In 2023, I was fortunate to visit this place in India.
